This statement in the 2014 article is bizarre: "They also found remnants of a mural that suggests the Khitan were more advanced than historians realized"

Awkward timing because if Unicode 12 release is moved to February 2019, as has been mooted, the new era name will miss the boat, and will have to wait until Unicode 13 in 2020.

I now hear that Unicode 12 is scheduled for release at the end of March 2019, so the square era name character could still make it into Unicode 12 if the era name is announced before #UTC157 in September 2018.

In future editions the code charts for ISO/IEC 10646 will be hosted on the Unicode website and referenced from the standard to avoid copyright issues (ISO/IEC claiming copyright over charts that are coproduced with Unicode).
