These are some essays on various aspects of the textual history of the famous Chinese historical novel Sanguo Yanyi 三国演义 [The Romance of the Three Kingdoms]. These essays represent the culmination of my research into the editions of the novel carried out between 1989 and and 1996, and derive from a draft for an unpublished book on the subject. They build upon these earlier publications :
Note that the essays presented here are frozen historically circa 1996. I have not, and do not intend to, update or revise any of these essays in the light of further research by myself or others.
At present only a few of these essays are available here, and it will probably be several more years before I get round to editing the others for Web publication.
